Lecturer of Physics Education Program Conduct Research on Strategies for Overcoming Extreme Poverty Through A Topography Based Multidimensional Approach

.Poverty is a problem that requires attention from every group. In Indonesia itself, overcoming the problem of poverty has always been a record of democracy to this day. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, poverty reduction was already showing a positive trend. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has again increased the poverty rate in Indonesia. Statistical data shows that Indonesia's poverty rate fell slightly from 10.19% in September 2020 to 10.14% in March 2021, but this figure is still higher than pre-pandemic conditions (9.22% in September 2019).

The physics education study program also shows seriousness in terms of alleviating poverty in Indonesia. Prof. Dr. Edi Istiyono, M.Sc., one of the lecturers in the physics education undergraduate and master's programs, collaborated with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) through research entitled "Strategy for Overcoming Extreme Poverty Through a Multidimensional Approach Based on Regional Topography in Kulon Progo Regency". Currently, research activities are still ongoing by holding an audience with regional leaders in Kulon Progo district, Yogyakarta Special Region on November 17 2022.

In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Edi Istiyono, M.Sc. offers various alternatives that can be done to overcome poverty in Kulon Progo Regency. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Edi Istiyono said that it is important to take a multidimensional approach because poverty is caused by many factors. On the other hand, the relatively large and diverse area of Kulon Progo district requires a topographic approach so that the solutions offered can be in accordance with the social conditions of the people in Kulon Progo district.
