Content is Not Born from a Single Person: Learning to Work in a Creative Ecosystem

.

KOTA MUNGKID – Producing quality media content requires solid and structured teamwork. This principle was emphasized in a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Workshop organized by the Educational Practice (PK) student team from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) for students at SMA N 1 Kota Mungkid. The event, which was opened by the Vice Principal of Public Relations at SMA N 1 Kota Mungkid, Mr. Wahyu Langgeng Prastiyo, S.Pd., Gr., featured a special session on Photography and Videography to introduce the importance of collaboration in the modern creative world.

The event ran smoothly and interactively from start to finish, guided by the Master of Ceremony (MC). Entering the photography and videography session at 10:50 AM WIB, speaker Iqbal Yogi Setiandaru, S.P., presented technical fundamentals for video creation using smartphones and cameras. His presentation covered lighting, camera angles, shot sizes, and visual composition techniques such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing. Beyond mastering the equipment, the primary emphasis was placed on how a creative ecosystem functions where the success of an audio-visual work heavily depends on a complementary team workflow.

Participant enthusiasm peaked during the hands-on practice session starting at 11:45 AM WIB. Over 40 minutes, students directly practiced how content is created through well-planned role division. Within each group, students professionally assigned roles including scriptwriter, talent, camera operator, photographer, voice-over artist, editor, and publication team.

Before capturing footage, students were taught to create storyboards together with their scriptwriters as a visual guide. Next, camera operators and photographers executed shots around the school grounds following the script’s scene sequence. The talent acted out scenes promoting a health and environmental campaign about bringing personal water bottles (tumblers) to prevent dehydration while reducing plastic waste. This stage was followed by voice-over artists and editors who combined video clips and audio tracks into a cohesive, publication-ready video.

To recognize each group's active participation and evaluate their understanding of the material, participants were given a practical assignment at the end of the session. The session concluded with a certificate presentation to Iqbal Yogi Setiandaru, S.P., at 12:25 PM WIB before moving on to the lunch and prayer break (Ishoma). The event was officially closed by the MC and wrapped up with a group photo session.

Through this program, the UNY Educational Practice students and SMA N 1 Kota Mungkid contributed to fulfilling commitments toward the SDGs:

  • SDG 4 (Quality Education): Providing holistic digital literacy understanding and skills, spanning pre-production (storyboarding), production, and post-production.
  • SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth): Introducing professional workflows within the creative industry to build young talent capable of adapting to the evolving digital economy.
  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Educating students that great work is not created by a single person, but is the result of collaboration, balanced role allocation, and strong team partnerships.
